# Method:
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, ground ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, baking soda, and salt until evenly mixed.
- In a large bowl, beat unsalted butter and dark brown sugar until light and fluffy. Incorporate the egg, molasses, and vanilla extract; mix thoroughly.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until a soft dough develops. Divide the dough into two portions, shape into disks, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least one hour.
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Roll chilled dough on a lightly floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness. Use gingerbread people cookie cutters to cut shapes and arrange them on prepared baking sheets.
- Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until edges are set. Remove and cool on the baking sheets for five minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Whisk powdered sugar with meringue powder. Gradually add water to achieve a piping consistency. Divide icing into separate bowls and tint with desired food coloring gels.
- Arrange cooled cookies, bowls of colored icing, and assorted candies on a large board or platter for easy access.
- Invite participants to decorate their gingerbread people cookies creatively using the royal icing and candies provided.
